The frame is the first item to be painted, as it is the only item I can fit into my paint booth while it is in there. I masked off the flame for the neck gusset and painted the entire frame blue and then clear coated it (Fig. 3). After it had dried I wet sanded with 600 grit wet dry paper and then masked off the frame so that the only item uncovered was the flame gusset. Painted the gold then added the flake to inter-coat clear and spayed the flake (Fig. 4). Once that was dry I sanded it down with 320 grit paper and then removed the masking from the frame and clear coated the entire frame (Fig. 5). As I was painting the frame I realized that I had forgotten something, the ends of the frame at the rear were still open. So I turned a couple pieces of 1.25” bar stock down so that they would fit in the end and act as a cap for the ends. These pieces were then powder coated and tapped for a screw to hold them in place (Fig. 6).
