Paint Job Pg 1
Painting has begun and should take quite a few weekends to complete; I plan on a candy apple cobalt blue for the base and then gold metal flake flames changing to candy apple maroon. Since the fenders have the portion of the paint that would be blue removed they will be the easiest to finish and the tank and battery box will be the hardest. First step is to complete the primer and get all the parts ready for color. I will be using only House of Kolor (HOK) paints from the primer all the way to the clear. I have used HOK before and have tried other paints as well, but I prefer the HOK paints. In order to do the metal flake I will need a new spray gun that has a large enough tip to accommodate the 1/64” metal flake that I want to use. I started the primer with a cheap gun that I had purchased off of ebay and boy does the statement you get what you pay for ever apply. The primer went on so crappy that I ended up sanding thru to the metal on the frame and will have to repaint the frame later when I get some more primer (Fig. 1). I was able to salvage the fenders and tank from the same fate (Fig. 2. After the problem with the primer I decided it was time to get a new gun to do primer work. I have purchased a DeVilbiss and a Sharpe Finishline III. The DeVilbiss came with 1.3, 1.5, 1.8 and a 2.2mm tips and I also purchase the bags that go inside of the paint cup to try. These bags are placed inside the cup and then the paint goes in them to make clean up easier.
